The Doors was formed in 1965. The Doors were a rock band from Los Angeles, California. The band members include Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, John Densmore, and Robby Kriegar. The Doors came up with their name from a book that was called, “The Doors of Perception”. The Doors began their career by playing in clubs that was not so popular in Hollywood, California. The band eventually got a break, and started playing at the Whisky a Go Go, which was a popular place where bands performed. The Doors was noticed by Jac Holzman who was the president of Elektra Records, and immediately signed the group.
The Doors first album was self-titled and was released in late January of 1967. The song, “Light My Fire” was the first song by The Doors to reach number one, and the song sold over a million copies. The “Light My Fire” song was very long. It was over seven minutes long, so the producers had to eliminate over four minutes of keyboard and guitar solos to get the song at the appropriate three minute length. This was a big success for the band.
The Doors second album was called, “Strange Days”. The band started experimenting with the Moog synthesizer, which was something new, but worked for the band, because the song immediately peaked at number three on the Billboard charts.
Jim Morrison was the first rock star to ever be arrested on stage. Jim Morrison was arrested at the New Haven Arena in Connecticut. Jim Morrison was backstage with a fan, and they were kissing and making out. A police officer noticed the two, and not knowing that Morrison was the lead singer of The Doors asked them both to leave, but Morrison replied, “Eat it”, which led to him being arrested.
“Hello, I Love You”, was The Doors last number one hit. Jim Morrison was using more drugs and abusing alcohol, which started to impact the band. Jim Morrison had more bouts with the law. The Dade County Sheriff’s Office in Florida issued a warrant for several offenses, which included exposing himself, obscenities, and simulating oral sex. Again in 1969, Morrison was charged with public drunkenness and interfering with a flight attendant.
Jim Morrison died on July 3, 1971 in Paris. His girlfriend found him in the bathtub, but there was no autopsy performed. The remaining band members released “Other Voices” in 1971. The band members considered replacing Jim Morrison, but decided to do the singing themselves. The Doors called it a quit in 1973. The Doors was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. In 1991, The Doors movie was released.
