John Lennon T-Shirts

John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 as John Winston Lennon. John Lennon was a singer, songwriter, and musician. John was born and raised in Liverpool. John received his first guitar in 1956 as a gift from his mother. When John was only fifteen he formed a group called the Quarrymen. The group was named after their high school. John met Paul McCartney while performing with the Quarrymen.

John Lennon wrote his first song at eighteen years of age. The song was, “Hello Little Girl”, which was a top ten hit in the United Kingdom. The Beatles was formed in 1960, which included John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The Beatles first song was “Love Me Do”. The song was released in 1962, and hit the top twenty on the British charts. The Beatles made their first appearance in the United States in 1964. The group played on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Beatles were known for wearing suits, and their bowl haircut.

In 1965, John was doing an interview with an Evening Star reporter where he said, “Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink…We’re more popular than Jesus-I don’t know which will go first, rock and roll or Christianity.” That statement caused an uproar in the United States. People started burning Beatles records, then John started receiving death threats, so the Beatles decided to stop touring from that moment on.

John began to use LSD regularly. The use of the drug started to affect his songwriting and singing career. In 1969, John Lennon left the Beatles. His first solo album was, “John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band”, which was released in 1970. His second solo album was, “Imagine”, which was released in 1971. The title track of the album was being sung by anti-war protesters. “Walls and Bridges” was released in 1974, and it was his first solo hit. John rook John took a five year break in 1975 to spend time with his second newborn son and his family. In 1980, John came out of retirement and released, “(Just Like) Starting Over”.

John Lennon died on December 8, 1980. John and Ono was going into their apartment in New York when Mark Chapman shot John in the back four times. He was pronounced dead at Roosevelt Hospital. His body was cremated, and his ashes were spread in Central Park.
