Allman Brothers T-Shirts

The Allman Brothers Band formed in 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida. The Allman Brothers Band was formed by Duane Allman and Gregg Allman (brothers), and Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Jai Johanny “Jaimoe” Johanson, and Butch Trucks. Gregg and Duane Allman first band was first called the Escorts, but then changed to The Allman Brothers Band. The Allman Brothers Band released their first album in 1969 called, “The Allman Brothers Band”. The album sold less than 40,000 copies. The Allman Brothers Band toured across the United States in 1970 doing over three hundred performances. In late 1970, the band released, “Idlewild South”. The Allman Brothers Band released their first live album, “At Filmore East”, which was recorded at the Filmore East in New York. The live album did well for the band, and peaked at thirteen on the Billboard chart.

Many of the band members were addicted to heroin. Duane Allman, Joseph “Red Dog” Campbell, Robert Payne, and Berry Oakley all checked into a drug rehabilitation center in October of 1971. Later that month, Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident. The Allman Brothers Band decided to stay together after Duane Allman’s death. The band started recording their third album, “Eat a Peach”, which was released in February 1972. “Eat a Peach” was a hit for the band.

The Allman Brothers Band broke up in 1976, because Gregg Allman testified against his security man Scooter Herring. The band members felt that he was a ‘snitch’, so they decided to break up. Gregg Allman formed the Gregg Allman Band, and released a live album, “Wipe The Windows, Check the Oil, Dollar Gas” was released. The Allman Brothers Band did their final concert on October 28, 2014.
