Supergirl was a teenage girl that wore a short skirt and red cape. The most popular character as Supergirl was Kara Zor-El, which was Superman’s cousin. Kara Zor-el was the last survivor of Argo City. She had survived the planets explosion, then drifted throughout space. She was sent to Earth to be raised by her cousin Superman or Kal-El. She had powered that were identical to Superman’s. She adopted a secret identity, which was Linda Lee. Her secret identity is only known to Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes. She is very vulnerable to kryptonite.

The Supergirl film was released in 1984. The movie was nominated for three Academy Awards. Helen Slater played Supergirl, and had to train three hours every day for three months, so she could do the outdoor flying. The outdoor flying suspended Helen by wires from a tower crane. The movie was intended to be the first in a lengthy series, but due to the lack of success at the box office the series was cancelled. Dolly Parton was first offered the role of Selena the witch for seven million dollars, but declined stating she couldn’t play a witch for no amount of money. The Supergirl movie only grossed fourteen million, which made the least amount of money in the Superman series.

Supergirl is coming to CBS in a live action television series drama. The series will be based on characters from the DC Comics and the Supergirl movie. Plans are in the works to have the Supergirl series started and released soon. “Smallville” had the last appearance of Kara from 2007 through 2011.Fans of Supergirl can enjoy the adventures again on CBS.
