The Who T-Shirts

The Who are a legendary rock band from England. The band was formed in 1964, and is one of the world’s top selling rock bands ever. The Who was previously called the Detours. The name of the band was changed when Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon joined the band. The last member of the band was Roger Daltrey. The Who was first known as a rock band that destroyed their guitars while performing. The broken guitar was first done by Pete Townshend on accident. He was playing on stage when the guitar’s head hit a ceiling that was low. The audience that it was funny that the guitar head was broken, and began laughing, but Pete was not amused, he picked up a different guitar and destroyed it too. The next show the audience wanted to see a guitar destroyed, and this is how the band started destroying their guitars.

In 1964, The Who released their first single, “I Can’t Explain”. The song was written by Pete Townshend, and hit the charts a year later. The next hit song that was produced was, “My Generation”. The Who kept putting out music, and in 1970 they were considered one of the top rock bands. The band decided they wanted to release a live album, and Live at Leeds was released. The album was recorded at Leeds University. The album Tommy took the band over a year to record, but it was finally released in 1969, and was a huge success. A Tommy film started in 1974. The movie included Elton John, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, and other big names. Tommy was premiered on March 18, 1975. The movie won the Rock Movie of the Year, and the movie had over two million dollars in revenue within the first four weeks. Keith Moon was found dead on September 6, 1978 from an overdose of a prescription drug.

The Who’s final tour is scheduled for this year, 2015. Pete Townshend announced that the band would perform in cities that they had never performed before, and this final tour would mark the bands 50th Anniversary.
