St. Patrick’s Day T-Shirts

St. Patrick’s Day is also known as “the Day the Festival of Patrick”. St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated annually on March 17th. Why is it celebrated on March 17th? March 17th is the death of Saint Patrick, who is the most recognized patron saint of Ireland. The Catholic Church made Saint Patrick’s Day an official Christian feast day in the seventeenth century. It is a celebration of Saint Patrick and the heritage of the Irish.

Everyone who celebrates St. Patrick’s Day wears green. This isn’t just something that was thought up to go along with the holiday. It is said that Saint Patrick used shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, because the shamrock is a three-leaved plant. In 1903, St. Patrick’s Day became an official holiday in Ireland.

St. Patrick’s Day isn’t a legal holiday in the United States, but is recognized as a celebration. There are numerous parades throughout the country along with eating and drinking celebrations. The fountain at the White House is dyed green every year for St. Patrick’s Day. The fountain has been dyed green since 2009. Since 1991, March has been proclaimed the Irish-American Heritage Month, because of St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick’s Day is one of the days that Americans consume the most alcohol. Green beer is a choice for this day.

Remember going to school on St. Patrick’s Day, and you had forgotten to wear some sort of green clothing? Do you remember what your friends and other students would do to you if you didn’t have green on? You would get pinched. Adults still give a person a pinch if they don’t wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.

Another tradition in America for St. Patrick’s Day is corned beef and cabbage. Corned beef and cabbage isn’t the national dish in Ireland. Why is it related to St. Patrick’s Day? During the time that the Irish was immigrating to the United States, the Irish was searching for a food that was comforting and reminding them of their homeland, but the immigrants were not wealthy, and bacon would have been their choice, so they turned to beef brisket, which was cheap back then. The Ireland immigrants boiled the beef brisket, then added cabbage. This is how corned beef and cabbage became a part of St. Patrick’s Day.

You don’t have to be Irish to celebrate the traditions of St. Patrick’s Day. You can join in the festivities by wearing your very own St. Patrick’s Day T-shirt anytime of the year. The most popular and sought out St. Patrick’s Day tee shirts include the Irish drinking team shirt, the You Had Me At Green Beer, and the Paddy’s Irish Pub t-shirt.
