He was debuted on January 17, 1929. In 1933, Popeye the cartoon was released. Popeye was a sailor. After Popeye was in a hopeless situation a can of spinach would pop out of his shirt, and he would open the spinach and have amazing physical strength, near like a superhero. Popeye was able to save the day after eating his spinach.

In 1960, Popeye the Sailor had released a new cartoon series. There was two hundred and twenty cartoons produced in just two years. Popeye was in love with Olive Oyl, and Brutus and Popeye would get into brawls over Olive Oyl.

Other characters that were added to the show were Swee’ Pea, Alice the Goon, Eugene the Jeep, Castor Oyl, Poopdeck Pappy, and Sea Hag. The other characters were added in the sixties.

Popeye was a short, but muscular man. He gained strength and power by just eating his can of spinach. Popeye always had a pipe in his mouth, but you never seen him put tobacco in the pipe. Popeye’s catch phrase was, “I Yam What I Yam”. Olive Oyl was a very thin woman, with black hair. She was Popeye and Bluto’s love. Bluto and Popeye would have fights for Olive Oyl. Usually, Bluto would kidnap Olive Oyl, and Popeye would have to save her. Wimpy was a friendly man known for his love of hamburgers. Whimsy’s catch phrase was, “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”.
